Gracy Aden Profile

Grace Jummai Nnadufe Adeniyi (Jiya) was born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1981. She is Nupe from Lokoja, Kogi state, Nigeria. Her late father Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Jiya was a man of God and the Overseer of Holy Assembly of Christ Church Lagos. Her Mum, is a retired civil servant who worked in Public Complaints Commission.

Grace started her primary education in Makurdi, Benue State. She had her tertiary education in Okene, Kogi State, proceeded to ABU, Zaria and obtained her master’s in Management and Accounting at OAU Ile-Ife in 2006.

At an early age, Grace developed love for both music and the gospel. She was inspired by various gospel artistes like Panam Percy Paul, Helen Baylor, Ron Kenoly, and Don Moen. Her Aunty, Chief (Mrs.) Grace Ndalugi, would send to her, from time to time, VHS cassettes of these gospel singers for her listening pleasure. Grace led the junior choir in her secondary school, joined a group that sang in a fellowship events in the university. She joined the G-house singing group in All Talented Christian Club, Zaria and was a member of the Savannah Grace Minstrels of Grace Choir, Zaria.

Married to an amazing man, Olushola and blessed with two wonderful kids, Eniola & Nathan, Grace writes and sings her own songs. She also has other interests like book writing and creating platforms for marriage counselling. Some of her works include her recently published maiden book – LIVE, and an online community forum – Focus on Marriage.

Grace currently also has an 8 – 5 career with 14-years’ experience in banking and the e-payment industry. Combining ministry through books, music, and marriage counseling with a corporate career only gives her a greater sense of fulfillment.

With respect to her debut album –‘I come now to you’, in her own words …’ during the lockdown, I read a book- The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. Prior to that time, I had asked the Lord for the next steps for my life. I had made my own plans and documented them. I, however, paused to seek the Lord while also reading the book.

I remembered that my future was in God’s plan, not mine. It came out clearly while meditating on that book that my purpose here on earth is to glorify God and bring others to the saving knowledge of Christ with my talents. My next question was…”Lord, this talent I had not refined in a while, how was I supposed to use it now”. Actively writing songs in school and public singing happened a long time, about 19 years ago.

Okay, I knew I loved to sing and write, so I got busy. Did I mention that while reading that book, on a particular Tuesday morning, four songs dropped in my spirit. I wrote down the lyrics and put music to them all within 4 hours that morning. I honestly could not believe it, they came in a rush. You would find that most of the songs are focused on reconciling men to God, which is one of our core essences as joint-heirs with Christ. This is the main vision for this album.’

A summary of the songs:

WHILE I’M HERE, reminds us to be focused on eternity while being busy with our earthly goals and ministry.

ALL FOR HIS PLEASURE demonstrates that every single victory, the downtime and the events in our lives, at the end, are for God’s glory. Our lives are an extension of God’s glory here on earth. We bring God pleasure as we do his will and do exploits here on earth. This song also has an Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, French, and Swahili chorus.

I FALL DOWN AGAIN. The righteous may fall seven times but he will rise again. When we fall, we should not hesitate to run back to Him quickly. His hands are always opened wide to receive us.

YOU PERFORM MIRACLES EVERY DAY. The thought of how we are here today by God’s grace also brings to remembrance the many miracles we see every day; the seemingly little and big ones. Just breathing is a miracle. Being able to eat, being able to casually step out of your house and come back safely is a miracle. The many invisible battles God fights for us, rescuing us from many destructions. He’s been too faithful to fail us. This song is a danceable one with a touch of Nigerian pidgin (local intonations).

YEA AND AMEN was composed while at the university. We were constantly encouraged in All Talented Christian club, my school fellowship in Zaria to showcase our talents. This song was borne out of my association with ATC club. This song has a reggae part.

ARISE was written in recognition of the place of prayer and intimacy with our helper, especially in our time of need for God’s intervention.

ROCK BOTTOM (a rap) Yes, we sometimes hit our rock bottom when we let the excitement of this world take away our focus on Christ. But NO! Satan can’t have us.

The vision for these songs, is to encourage us to fulfil the reasons for our living on earth;

To do God’s pleasure
Magnify God’s glory
Care for what God cares about – the souls of men
Make disciples for the kingdom and be the voice of God
Share the good news
Pursue the great commission.

At the end, it’s what God says about me that matters, more than what the world would say about me. This is really not about me but God’s kingdom– Grace Adeniyi.
